Shameless plug;

I would include up to 1997- because Voodoo by Godsmack is DEFiNITELY Gen X gente.

Look, for me it is not really the "year-" it's the genra. Gen X gsve rise to Eminem, who is one of the greatest rap artists of all time. All his music had Gen X written all over it.

If there was a band today in 2025 that could create music like Journey, ACDC, Erik B and Rakim, Run DMC, or even country music like Kenny Rogers , Juice Newton, Charlie Pride, Alabama... I would still consider it Gen X-ish. But nowadays most music is not much storytelling or does not have the emotional connection that we had.

This, in oart, is because Gen X music were actually somgwriters. Steve Perry from Journey, for example, wtote his own music. Nowadays I cN only think of ond other person that does this (but i do not consider her style Gen X)- and thst is Tsylor Swift. 97% of "artists" these dayz hire somgwriters - and those songwriters most likely use AI.

AI cannot touch to the heart and soul of the human experience, loke the 80s and 90s music did.

Remember 1980 is still consider the "birth year" of Gen X - that would mean their music would extend into 1998, when they graduated High School.
